| SPORTS MEDICINE |
The
Orthopaedic Center uses a concept designed to provide our
patients with the most complete treatment for their
orthopaedic injury. Whether a professional athlete, masters
age group competitor or a weekend warrior, our goal is to
provide our patients with state of the art medical care to
allow them to get back in “the game” as quickly and as
safely as possible.
Our Sports Medicine physicians serve as team physicians for
several area high schools and professional sports teams. Dr.
Holt competes in local and national marathons and is an avid
basketball player. Personal experience such as this, gives
our physicians a special rapport with their patients. With
this special understanding of how important it is to stay in
top condition, they can help the professional or amateur
athlete and weekend warrior back to an active lifestyle as
quickly as possible.
What is Sports Medicine?
Sports Medicine consists of the prevention, care and
treatment of athletic injuries. However, not all injuries
treated by a sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon are the
result of an athletic injury. A carpenter hammering nails or
ceiling hanger can develop shoulder problems identical to
those of a baseball pitcher. A fall from a ladder can result
in a twisted knee exactly like that of a football player
making a sharp pivot. Sports Medicine deals primarily with
injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Many
injuries are able to be treated with aggressive
rehabilitation. |
