Our Sports Medicine physicians serve as team physicians for several area high schools and professional sports teams. What is Sports Medicine? Sports Medicine consists of the prevention, care and treatment of athletic injuries. However, not all injuries treated by a sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon are the result of an athletic injury. A carpenter hammering nails or ceiling hanger can develop shoulder problems identical to those of a baseball pitcher. A fall from a ladder can result in a twisted knee exactly like that of a football player making a sharp pivot. Sports Medicine deals primarily with injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Many injuries are able to be treated with aggressive rehabilitation.
